OBMQ Part 3...

This blog post is brought to you today by the letters H,S,T, and by the number 48.

Part 3 of the swiftly-moving Orca Bay Mystery Quilt project calls for Half-Square Triangles.  A whole whack of 'em: 350, to be precise.  For that number, I set aside my Quilter's Quarter ruler and reach for triangle paper.  As luck would have it, I had the right size in my stash.  Have had it for years -- so long ago that I've no recollection as to where I bought it, or if this particular brand is still in production.  It came in a pad of sheets rather than on a role a la "Thangles".  Alas I have only 5 1/2 sheets left -- or, rather had only 5 1/2 sheets left, as I've just used 3 1/2.

This paper is marked "(C) 1991, Mimi Shimp..."  I looked up her name on Google and found a blog -- with a single entry, dated December 2009.  Goodness!  Had she passed on?  No...I found she's still out there and very busy in the quilting world.  You can find out a bit more about her here (scroll down).

But I digress.  48 is the number of HSTs each sheet of Mimi's paper makes.  With 5 1/2 sheets, I'll end up with 264 triangles, meaning that I'm going to have to make another 86 HSTs with my trusty ruler in order to complete Part 3 on time.  Maybe I'll pop into my LQS in Lacombe on Monday afternoon to see if they have any of the paper in this size...

48 is also the number of shortbread cookies I made this morning for tomorrow's Christmas Tea and Craft Sale at the Mirror Library.  The weather continues "iffy" so I don't know how many guests we'll get, but I'm doing it up 'right and proper' with a teapot, hand-painted china sugar bowl and creamer, silver tea spoons, the lot.  No soggy tea bags in Styrofoam cups if I can help it!  My work at the Library ends on December 15th; I figure I might as well go out in white-gloved elegance.  ;-)
