May I recommend...

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson, a Brit now living in the US.  It is particularly delicious if you "read" it via the audio-book version, read by Peter Altschuler, an actor able to do voices for a variety of characters and who portrays the quintessential upper-crust Briton with flare.

Yes, you can read it in hard cover, or as an e-book, or on a Kindle or whatever, but if you want a particularly enjoyable evening (or 2 or 3), including your  knitting or other handwork, go for the audio-book.  You won't be disappointed!
