SAQA Auction 2008

This spring I became an 'Active' (i.e., non-professional) member of the Studio Art Quilt Associates, or SAQA. I've been learning an immense amount, and have actually gotten off my duff and submitted 2 pieces thus far. One is to a juried competition for a Canadian exhibit at Creativ Stitches (yes, that's 'Creativ') in Toronto in October. I'll know the results right after Labour Day, and will post a photo then.

The second is a donation piece -- a 12"x12" square -- for the annual SAQA Auction fundraiser. I have taken photos and hope that the Beloved Web Goddess for the SAQA site, Eileen, will be able to post it. But here's a sneak peek:

I call it 'Joy Cometh in the Morning', from Psalm 30, verse 5. Materials: Ribbon yarn, hand-dyed wool, cheesecloth; cotton backing, binding and sleeve (not shown). The inspiration for it came when a local quilt shop, that also features yarn, had this wonderful hanks of Louisa Harding ribbon on sale at 3 for $5.00!! When I knit with ribbon, I prefer the narrower variety, usually a softer tape-like material, but who could resist these glorious sunrise colours for an art quilt? Not I!
