A Dream Come True!

It's true! We finally have an LYS in NW Calgary. Mona, of Mona's in Cochrane, closed up shop there, took on a partner, and found a spot in the Crowchild Square, just off 53rd St. and Crowchild Trail N.W. It's a tad smaller than her prior spot, but better laid out, clean and bright, with better parking. It's located with Bernard Callebaut Chocolatier and Logos Books on its east side, and a cafe on the west. The name of the new shop? The Knitting Room

I paid a visit this afternoon, and came out with 7 balls of Bernat "denimstyle" in a grey and white ragg-like tweed. It's a very soft cotton/acrylic blend, at $3.99 per 100 grams -- perfect for a casual pullover, perhaps from my new copy of The Knit Stitch...

There are higher-end yarns there too -- such as Noro 'Silk Garden' -- and a variety of novelty furry types, plenty of Patons (a real staple) and those self-striping sock yarns, baskets of mule-spun from Custom Woollen Mills, and some great selections for summer tops from Berroco.

The front room is lined with cubicles of yarn, with scattered basketsful attractively arranged in nooks and crannies. The room is anchored by a large wooden table on which rest some books for browing, as well as projects in process. One can come in, sit down with a coffee, and pick Mona's brain about trouble spots. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, there will be classes for all levels. It's gonna be great!!
