Who do you call...

...when there are so few left who remember?
Another of the old guard, a family elder, has gone. My sweet and funny cousin, Lisle, died yesterday. He gave the toast to the bride at my wedding and brought down the house. I've been in touch with him regularly for the past couple of years, especially after his health began to fail and he went to live in the St. Anne's Veterans' Hospital. In the attached photo, he's the smiling young man in the back row, next to his father. His mom and sister Joy are in the front. My mother took this picture on a sunny summer day decades ago...but Lisle didn't seem to change much. He still had that smile and charm, and could brew a killer gin martini. I suspect he's cutting a rug with his wife in a Heavenly ballroom, and all the other ladies have lined up for their turn. I'll miss him.

(I posted this on Facebook too; some of you may have read it already.)

I'm sorry for your loss, but you've got some great memories to continue to hold close. It seems that any time someone close to me dies, I need to work through my feelings by channelling them into something creative. That's why I've been making the prayer flag memorial for my father in law. Almost finished ...
