Calm Things: Essays - Shawna Lemay

"Standing in front of Willem Kalf's painting of a lobster in the National Gallery in London, I once experienced Stendahl's Syndrome, which is when one feels faint, physically overwhelmed, overwrought with rapture, in the presence of so much beauty.  Not being able to afford regular trips to great museums, I have learned that it is possible to become overwhelmed by an apple."

P.S. I found this book in the library in Lacombe, Alberta.  Every essay is a gem: thoughtful, quiet, gentle -- yes, calm.  I recommend it highly, and may just go out and buy it to savour whenever I want.
