Much Ado About Mozart

I'm a Mozart fan -- well,of his music more than his opera...but I'm not a fan of any opera, really...

Why quibble?! Let's just get on with the celebration! It was the Great Amadeus' 250th Birthday yesterday, and our National Public Broadcaster, the CBC has seen fit to produce a weekend-long Mozart Extravaganza!

My favourite bit so far has been the contest run for young musicians -- all 19 or younger -- to make variations on one of Mozart's little themes, "A Girl or a Little Wife" from The Magic Flute. There are ten finalists, each of whom is absolutely amazing -- I wanted to vote for more than one! And there is a precious four-and-a-half-year old named Rachel, who was named "Honorary Mozartian" for her rendition of the piece as a darling little song.

Enjoy! Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Mozart! We have nothing but M on the CD player. Fortunately, I do love his opera, though the requiem is my favorite - till I think of the Turkish Violin concerto, which I performed when I was about 9 or 10 years old. Oh those were the days

Glad someone else remembered Mr. M.
